The Naval Enterprise is seeking to foster the science and technology leaders of tomorrow. Through our STEM2Stern portfolio, we seek to engage and inspire young people by exposing them to exciting, hands-on, and mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, while at the same time fostering self-confidence and life skills. By offering a broad range of STEM education and outreach programs, the Naval Service seeks to address the national crisis of decreasing college enrollments and careers in science and engineering.
We do this by supporting the American student throughout their education experience. In our K-12 programs, we emphasize hands-on learning experiences, such as robotics competitions and internships, which encourage students and teachers of all ages to "learn by doing." In our college and university programs, we focus on providing research opportunities, as well as summer internship work experiences.
It is important to note that our programs rely heavily on Naval Scientists and Engineers serving as volunteers and mentors. Their contributions are often the key to success for our programs. These individuals come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all share a commitment to inspiring young people, their schools, and communities.
Through this STEM2Stern website, students, parents, teachers, and mentors can explore new opportunities, programs and partnerships to strengthen STEM education.
